Most ED medications are PDE5 inhibitors. In general, it's best to inform your healthcare provider of all the medications and supplements you're taking so they can help you make the best possible decisions.
Providers may generally advise to avoid PDE5 inhibitors if you are currently on nitrate or nitrite therapy, including intermittent use and recreational nitrates/nitrites (such as poppers).
People who use alpha-blockers (e.g., doxazosin) should also exercise caution and follow provider instructions.
Moreover, certain drugs have a dramatic effect on the metabolism of PDE5 inhibitors, increasing the blood level dramatically. Therefore, anyone taking erythromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, saquinavir, and ritonavir should exercise caution and follow provider instructions.
It is also important to be aware of any other PDE5 inhibitors you might be taking for conditions (such as pulmonary hypertension) and inform your provider accordingly to avoid accidentally taking too high of a dose.
This list is not exhaustive, and it's most important to be totally transparent about your medications and supplements with your healthcare provider.
