Are There Any Other Conditions that Can Be Confused with Vaginal Dryness Due to Menopause?

Multiple other conditions can mimic vaginal dryness due to menopause. If vaginal estrogen is ineffective after two months other possible causes of vaginal dryness must be considered.

Other conditions that can cause vaginal dryness include, but are not limited to:

Infections (e.g., Bacterial vaginosis, Candidiasis, Trichomonas)

  • Irritation from personal products that contact the genitals
  • Skin conditions (e.g., Lichen sclerosus, Lichen simplex chronicus, Lichen planus)
  • Vulvar cancer
  • Paget’s disease

Please contact your physician if your symptoms have not improved after two months despite treatment.
