Most patients tolerate vaginal estradiol well, but as with any medication, vaginal estradiol can have side effects including headache, back pain, weight gain, skin irritation or itching, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, period cramps, vaginal bleeding, and/or pain in the breasts.
Vaginal estradiol is not appropriate for everyone. It can cause serious drug interactions and side effects that you should understand before using it for vaginal dryness. Please discuss side effects with your provider if you have any concerns.
