Will I Stay Addicted to Nicotine if I Keep Using NRT?

Nicotine gum releases nicotine to the brain much slower than smoking does. This makes the nicotine in gum much less addictive than nicotine from smoking.

It’s also important to understand that nicotine does not cause cancer and heart disease. The reason smoking causes cancer and heart disease is because of the many other chemicals in cigarette smoke. These chemicals damage the lungs, but they also enter the blood and get transported all over the body. It is these chemicals that are responsible for all the diseases that are caused by smoking.

For this reason, it would be much better to continue chewing nicotine gum as long as you need to. When you are far enough from smoking that tapering nicotine works for you, that is when you can take on that challenge.
