What’s the difference between sildenafil and Viagra? Why do they come in different doses?
Generic Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, in the 20mg pills is technically the generic of Revatio, which is used in the treatment of pulmonary hypertension.
However, the active ingredient is the exact same ingredient as in Viagra, which comes in 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg pills.
This is common in medicine for a drug to have more than one use and be sold under 2 different trade names.
For example: the generic drug bupropion is approved for both smoking cessation and depression.
For depression, the trade name is Wellbutrin, and for smoking cessation it is called Zyban.
However the drug is exactly the same and works in both conditions.
This is the case for sildenafil too. Technically you are getting the generic of Revatio, but the drug has the same properties as Viagra.
