Bile Acid Sequestrants: How long do I need to wait in between these medicines and ED medication?

I take cholestyramine (Questran) or colesevelam (Welchol). How long do I need to wait in between these medicines and ED medication?

These medicines are known as bile acid sequestrants. They are not used very commonly, but when they are, they are usually used to lower cholesterol.

They work by binding bile acids in the gut and removing them from the body. Because bile acids have a lot of cholesterol, this can lower cholesterol levels. The problem is that they bind many other things in the gut including many drugs.

It is recommended to take your ED meds at least one hour before, or 4 hours after, these medications. Otherwise, you risk lowering the absorption of the ED medication causing it not to be effective.
