🚫 Medications that are Contraindicated with ED Meds

Nitroglycerin or Nitrates

Nitroglycerin or nitrates are used to treat chest pain in people with heart disease. They are absolutely contraindicated with with ED PDE 5 inhibitors. This is because they work on a different part of the same pathway as PDE 5 inhibitors. If these 2 families of medications are taken together, they can cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure that can be deadly.

Poppers, Amyl Nitrite, and Amyl Nitrate

Poppers, amyl nitrite, and amyl nitrate are contraindicated with PDE 5 inhibitors for the same reason. They work like nitrates even though they may be sold as recreational drugs. If you currently use poppers and have ED, you should make a decision of which drug you would rather use and stop using the other one permanently.

Revatio (sildenafil)

Revatio (sildenafil) is a drug used to treat pulmonary hypertension and has the same active ingredient as Viagra. It should never be used with ED medications.

Adempas (riociguat)

Adempas (riociguat) is a medicine used to treat pulmonary hypertension and should never be used with ED medication. It also works on a different part of the same pathway and can cause a deadly drop in blood pressure if used with ED drugs.

The above list is not exhaustive.

There are other medications that can interact with ED medications. They are included in your treatment plan and in the PDR. Please let your doctor know about any medications you are on before taking your medicine.
